What A Whale Of A Deal - Free Patterns!

Spring Cleaning!!!
For Spring Cleaning - I wanted to clear out my “Fabric Stash.” Now don’t get me wrong, when I say clear out, I usually donate yardage to a local quilt group that uses the fabric(s) to do good works.
This year, however, as I was sorting, I found lots of beautiful scraps of bright colored fabrics and didn’t want to give them up...I know that defeats the purpose of Spring Cleaning, but the quilt group only wants yardage not scraps- and the colors were talking to me!

So I cut out a few 5½” circles and sewed up a few Yo-Yos... then I made more Yo-Yos! (about 170).  Really who can make just one Yo-Yo.  It really goes fast: I was able to sew up about 15 - 20 in a couple hours while watching TV at night.  Now, I am mixing them up and “Bar-Tacking” them together to form a table-topper...so much fun and I think it’ll look great for Cinco de Mayo and every day after it!!!

I think I’ll try one from all the bits and pieces of left over of Halloween fabrics for a Halloween table topper too!

I did not turn under the edges of the Yo-Yos, but used a dab of Fray Check around the center stitching.  If you look under “How To” on our web site, you’ll learn how to do Bar Tacking.  The hardest thing was clipping all the thread ends.  Once finished, I pressed all the Yo-Yos flat because they are being used on the table and I did not want a lot of bulk.

This is a great way to use up scraps - hope you try it, it was fun!  Please share on our Face Book Susie C Shore or send pictures to Fiona @ susiecshore@aol.com

If you need instructions to sew Yo-Yos, you can google “making fabric Yo Yos” – we did not use any special tools, nor did we turn under a seam allowance.

Next, I was thinking that for my niece I would like to make a window covering/curtain with Yo-Yos attached.  I plan to make a curtain out of a light-weight sheer fabric like Batiste or Organza and Bar-Tack colorful Yo-Yos (in the same manner as the table topper) to the finished curtain.  How wonderful it will be to wake up surrounded by all those beautiful colors!
    Thanks And Enjoy!
